Daniel Lara

Daniel Lara, a Junior in the Plant Biotechnology & Cellular Biology concentration offered by the College of ACES, is an aspiring phytochemical researcher with interests in the medical field. His desire to provide service to others led him to become heavily involved in the Illini Emergency Medical Services Initiative, a program which enables BLS certified students to learn alongside EMT’s and provide basic life support/CPR to spectators at school games and other sponsored events. He initially enrolled at UIUC with the intention of pursuing a doctoral degree in internal medicine but soon became infatuated by the potential of applying unique plant properties to developing safer and cost effective pharmaceutical drugs. He aspires to one day earn funding to do tropical plant research abroad. Being raised in the south suburbs of Chicago enabled him to always be heavily immersed in the rich and abundant Latino culture provided by his community and is determined to invest in the education there upon returning from professional school.
